2015 Hyundai Tucson

New for 2015

The only changes for 2015 are the addition of a Popular Equipment Package for the Tucson GLS, and standard LED taillights for the Limited model.

A Stylish Good Value

A true focus on economy often means throwing all other considerations out the window. For decades, Hyundai was the poster child for that. It made dirt cheap cars with few other redeeming qualities.

That’s no longer the case, though. The 2015 Hyundai Tucson is still a good value, but it proves an economical car can still be fun to own. It combines the best features of a car and a traditional SUV, comes packed with features, and it’s one of the most stylish vehicles of its type on the road.

Powertrains and Performance

The 2015 Hyundai Tucson is available with a choice of two powertrain options that will never leave you wanting for power, or in pain at the pump.

The standard Tucson engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 164 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. All Tucson models come with a six-speed automatic transmission and a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

With front-wheel drive, the 2.0-liter engine is rated by the EPA at 25 mpg combined (23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway),* while the all-wheel drive version is rated at 23 mpg combined (21 mpg city, 25 mpg highway).*

There’s also the option to upgrade to a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 184 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. This slightly larger engine is rated at 24 mpg combined (21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway)* with front-wheel drive, and 22 mpg combined (20 mpg city, 25 mpg highway)* with all-wheel drive.

Features and Trims

The 2015 Hyundai Tucson is only available as a five-door, five-seat small crossover. There are three available trim levels, with prices starting at $21,659.**

Typical of Hyundai, the Tucson represents a great value, with plenty of standard equipment on even the entry-level base model. That model, the GLS, includes 17-inch alloy wheels, six-way adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40 split-folding rear bench, steering wheel mounted audio, Bluetooth, and cruise controls, and iPod and USB jacks.

The middle Tucson model is the SE, which incorporates applicable standard features from the GLS, and adds heated side mirrors, roof rails, fog lights, heated front seats, a rearview camera, and a 4.3-inch touchscreen display.

The top Tucson model is the Limited which, in addition to the standard features from the GLS and SE models, includes chrome exterior trim, LED taillights, side-mirror mounted turn-signal indicators, automatic climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and Hyundai’s BlueLink telematics system.

On top of the standard equipment, there are several notable optional features, including a seven-inch touchscreen navigation system, HD Radio, a seven-speaker audio system, and a panoramic sunroof.

Exterior/Interior

The 2015 Hyundai Tucson puts a strong emphasis on style. While competitors go for safe and anonymous, or model their crossovers on the truck-based SUVs that inspired them, the Tucson features exterior styling that simply looks good draped over its utilitarian frame.

Like all current Hyundai models, the Tucson wears a version of the Korean carmaker’s “Fluidic Sculpture” design language, which is defined by a sleek profile and aggressive sculpting of the lights, wheel wells, and side surfaces. Optional chrome trim and LED taillights add a bit of extra pizazz.

The interior features a similar styling theme, with a sculpted center console and steering wheel, crisp gauges, and an available touchscreen display. Despite the Tucson’s tall ride height, the step-in height is actually fairly low, making ingress and egress easier.

Despite its relatively compact size, the Tucson also features a useful 101.9 cubic feet of passenger volume, plus 25.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up, and 55.8 cubic feet with the seats folded.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the 2015 Hyundai Tucson includes anti-lock brakes, stability and traction controls, hill-start assist, downhill brake control, and front, front-seat mounted side, and front and rear roof-mounted side-curtain airbags.

Bottom Line

The 2015 Hyundai Tucson is a sensible small crossover that stands out from the pack with pleasing styling and impressive value.
