2024 Hyundai Kona EV

Overview

The Hyundai Kona EV is back for 2024, boasting an attention-grabbing, complete redesign with a more futuristic flair. Debuting in North America in 2019, the Hyundai Kona EV immediately made a name for itself at a time when the field of economically priced electric SUVs was decidedly less crowded. While 2022 saw the Kona go through a number of style and feature upgrades, it wasn't until the arrival of the second-generation Kona for 2024 that this popular fully electric subcompact SUV introduced a complete refresh, expanding in width, length, and wheelbase and pumping up its driving range. Offered in three trims--SE, SEL, and Limited--and with a choice of two battery packs, the Kona EV joins its gas-powered counterparts in the latest Kona line-up from Hyundai.

Who's It For?

The 2024 Hyundai Kona EV will appeal to younger buyers looking for an economical, all-electric crossover with futuristic styling for 2024 and a more roomy interior. Those who were fans of the previous model will enjoy finding that for 2024, the Kona EV brings more horsepower and a roomy exterior to the table. Those who appreciate a more distinctive-looking vehicle will appreciate the 2024 Kona EV's new face, with a full-width LED light bar and lower bumper that sets it apart from both its predecessors and its gas-powered counterparts.

What's New for 2024?

The roomier 2024 Kona is greater in length, width, and wheelbase, resulting in more passenger and cargo space. The range is up just slightly, now at 260 miles. This new generation of the Kona EV features a fresh new look with futuristic styling, including wide-spanning signature LED headlights and taillights that set it apart from previous models. The Kona Electric's former 10.3-in. screen is replaced with a dual 12.3-in. infotainment and instrument cluster display in the 2024 model. Also new--an optional digital key via smartphone for phone-as-key functionality.

Real World Performance

2024 brings a more powerful Kona Electric to Hyundai's lineup, with a single 133-hp motor standard, a 13-hp increase from the previous year. A more powerful 201-hp option is also available. With more horsepower, the latest generation of Kona Electric should be able to improve on last year's Kona, which went from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.4 seconds. Both versions are front-wheel drive, with no all-wheel drive available as an EV.

Kona Electric owners have their choice of two different battery packs for 2024. The base model comes with a 48.6 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 197 miles. Upgrading will mean a 64.8 kWh battery with a better driving range of 260 miles. Although higher in range than its 2023 version, the improvement is limited to two additional miles. One-pedal driving not only makes for more driver comfort but helps get the most out of the Kona's range.

The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric is built on a powerful 800-volt architecture with the ability to recharge its battery pack from 10 to 80 percent in just 41 minutes with DC charging.
